Sending Markers in E-Prime
Introduction
Markers typically signal the onset of significant events in a task. They are sent from the stimulus presentation PC to physiological data acquisition devices (BIOPAC, BioSemi) and are used to segment the physiological data in meaningful segments.
Markers are originally sent using the parallel port (LPT), however, since the parallel port is not always available on modern PC's and laptops, SOLO created other solutions (UsbParMarker, Eva) to send markers. At FSW Leiden most lab computers still have an LPT port. In some labs, an Eva or UsbParMarker is installed and needs to be used to send markers. Contact SOLO if you are unsure what to use.
Sending Markers
UsbParMarker and Eva
The Markers package (created by SOLO) can be used to send markers from E-Prime with a UsbParMarker or Eva device to equipment like Biopac or Biosemi. See Github for more information on how to install and use the Markers package.
LPT
To use the LPT port, nothing needs to be installed, the only requirement is that the PC has an LPT port. See Github for instructions on how to send markers to the LPT port and sample tasks.
