Introduction

The Researchdata Analysis Room is situated in 1B02 at the FSW in Leiden. 1B02 is a small room with 5 computers that are exclusively meant for using specialized analysis software (not SPSS). See software available in 1B02 for a list of available software on the pc's in 1B02. LU card access is required to be able to access the room. A computer can be reserved here. 

LU card access

LU card access is required when using this room. Access needs to be requested at the Service Desk: servicedeskfsw@ufb.leidenuniv.nl. Students cannot request for access themselves, their supervisor or the principal investigator of the project needs to request access for them. The following information needs to be sent to the Service Desk:

• ULCN name
• LU/umail address
• LU card number
• The start and end date of access

Privacy

• Use your LU card to lock and unlock the door. The door does not automatically lock when closed. The room must be locked when nobody is present.
• When you momentarily leave the room, lock your computer by pressing <ctrl><alt><del> and click ‘Lock’.

Working with Data in 1B02

Make sure to consider where you store the data while working with data in 1B02. The J-drive is the most secure option when working with data. The J-drive is the university's network drive. One drawback of the J-drive is the processing speed, which can be slow. When processing speed is important, the C-drive (local drive) can be used to temporarily store your research data, see below. Other (cloud) storage options are generally not recommended. When in doubt, always consult your Data Steward.

Using the C-drive

To store data locally on the C-drive, please make a new folder in C:\Users\%USERNAME%\. Make sure not to use the Documents folder, as it may get synced with your OneDrive Documents folder. Using OneDrive for research data is generally not recommended.

Please be aware of the following:

• Any data stored on the C-drive is stored locally, which means that the data can only be accessed on that particular computer in 1B02.
• No backup is made of data on the C-drive. You should backup your data to the network drive (J-drive) regularly

Using the PhysioData Toolbox

The latest version of the PhysioData Toolbox is not preinstalled on the PCs in 1B02, but can be downloaded by the user here: Download and Installation | PhysioData Toolbox.The required MATLAB Runtime is preinstalled. After downloading, extract the zip file and run PhysioDataToolbox.exe.

The Toolbox should be located on the local C: drive, it does not run when placed on a network drive (J: drive) or cloud drive (OneDrive). On the PCs in 1B02, it is recommended to keep the Toolbox in C:\Users\%USERNAME% or in the Downloads folder. Make sure not to use the Documents folder, as it may get synced with your OneDrive Documents folder.
