Introduction
In September 2021, the Executive Board decided to further develop a state-of-the-art Social Science and Humanities (SSH) lab environment that provides space for behavioral science research at Leiden University. This has resulted in a total of 46 modern laboratories managed by SOLO located in the basement of the Pieter de la Court and on the second floor of the Sylvius building. Also the labs at the faculty of humanities are part of the SSH labs, and are managed by Bobby Ruijgrok. All labs and equipment is being shared by the researchers.
The two initiating faculties, Social Sciences and Humanities, have made agreements, in consultation with VGM, about the use of these labs, equipment, and support. These agreements are based on the existing support and protocols of the SOLO department. Since 2015, the SOLO (Support for Research, Laboratories, and Education) department of Social Sciences has built up high-quality support expertise and written protocols for human-related research in psychology and education and child studies.
In order to create uniformity for all researchers in the various SSH labs, it has been agreed that the agreements made between Social Sciences and Humanities apply to all SSH labs, regardless of location[1], and that the protocols as described on the SOLO wiki[2] are leading when conducting research. If researchers from other faculties or from outside come to conduct research in the SSH Labs, the same agreements and protocols apply to them.
